Rochester, Minn (August 15th, 2013)–The 2013 Summer Collegiate World Series begins Thursday, August 15th as the Duluth Huskies will travel to face the Madison Mallards for game one at 7:05. The series will be a best-of-three series to determine the champion of the Northwoods League.

The Madison Mallards come into the series winning two straight after getting beaten convincingly in game one of the South Divisional championship. Alex Bacon (North Florida) hit the game-winning three run home run in the top of the ninth of game three to cap the Mallards’ comeback and get them into the championship series.

The Mallards used offense to beat the Chinooks as they scored 14 runs in game two and five in game three to come away with the series win. RBI man Drew Weeks (North Florida) will figure to be a tough out in the championship series.

Meanwhile, the Duluth Huskies come into the series absolutely on fire. The Huskies have won nine straight games, and they beat the regular season champion Waterloo Bucks in two straight games to earn a spot in the championship series. With home field advantage, a day of rest, and a nine-game winning streak, the Huskies will serve as a formidable opponent.

The Huskies beat the Bucks with a pair of very strong pitching performances from Jake Heissler (Central Missouri) and Clay Chapman (Florida Southern) who combined for 13 innings and two earned runs allowed in the two games against the Bucks.

Game one of the 2013 Summer Collegiate World Series will be played on Thursday, August 15th at 7:05 in Madison, Wisconsin. The pitching match up will feature Taylore Cherry (North Carolina) for Madison versus Parker Trewin (North Dakota State) for Duluth.

Game two on Friday and game three on Saturday (if necessary) will take place in Duluth, Minnesota starting at 6:35 each night.

The Northwoods League has more teams, plays more games, and draws more fans than any other Summer Collegiate Baseball League in North America. The League has 16 teams in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Michigan, and Ontario. Be sure to catch all new and highlights from the championship series here.
