Catcher Kapers and Reliever Quigley Will Join Wisconsin Rapids In 2016
Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. – In the latest round of 2016 roster announcements, the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters are excited to welcome a pair of freshmen battery mates from Valparaiso University. The Rafters will look for catcher Scott Kapers (Valparaiso) to add depth behind the plate and right-handed relief pitcher Montana Quigley (Valparaiso) to fortify the bullpen.
“We are pleased to partner with Valparaiso again this year,” said Rafters general manager John Fanta. “Scott Kapers was a highly recruited player out of high school, while Montana Quigley provides us with another arm that can continue to develop throughout the summer.”
C – Scott Kapers, 5’10” 185, (R/R), Freshman, Valparaiso University
Catcher Scott Kapers has signed to suit up for the Rafters in the summer of 2016 after he concludes his first collegiate campaign. Kapers has already worked his way into a notable role for the Crusaders as their regular backstop, starting behind the plate in four of the squad’s first six games. A native of Schererville, Indiana, Scott recorded his first collegiate base hit on February 26 in a road game against New Orleans. Kapers is just a year removed from finishing a decorated prep career at Mt. Carmel High School that saw him earn recognition as both a catcher and a lockdown closer. In addition to winning a state championship in 2013, Kapers was honored as the Chicago-Area Closer of the Year as a junior and Defensive Player of the Year as a senior.
P – Montana Quigley, 6’4” 185, (R/R), Freshman, Valparaiso University
Strike-throwing relief pitcher Montana Quigley is also slated to join the Rafters for the upcoming summer. Just two weeks into his true freshman season, Quigley has already become a fixture in the bullpen for Valparaiso as he has made a pair of appearances without allowing a run. In an opening weekend matchup with Jacksonville State, Quigley made his collegiate debut in relief, firing a scoreless inning and recording his first strikeout. Less than a week later, the right-hander tossed another scoreless inning on the road against New Orleans. Montana prepped at El Toro High School in Lake Forest, California. As a Charger alumnus, Quigley was produced by the same program that is known for developing Major League All-Star third baseman Nolan Arenado of the Colorado Rockies.
