Trio of Creighton Cardinals arms make their way to Madison for 2019 season

Madison, WI – The Madison Mallards have announced the signing of three pitchers from the Creighton Bluejays. Redshirt junior John Sakowski (Omaha, NE), and a pair of freshman, Dylan Tebrake (Cold Spring, MN) and Paul Bergstrom (Mount Prospect, IL).

Sakowski made the most out of his limited appearances in his spring 2018 campaign, striking out eight batters in twelve innings of work. He spent last summer with the Thunder Bay Border Cats, tossing 48 innings and punching out 32 batters, and only allowing 14 walks. He earned one save throughout the season, and his most productive outing on the mound came against the Duluth Huskies where he sent down four batters in his three innings of work.

Tebrake, a power throwing right hander out of Rocori High School (Cold Spring, MN), is highly touted coming into his debut season with the Bluejays. In his junior year he posted a 4-2 record with an ERA of 2.33. In his 2018 senior campaign, Tebrake struck out 23 batters in only 13 innings pitched and didn’t give up a single run. He saw equal success at the plate, compiling a .433 average, along with a 1.333 OPS. Coming out of high school he was ranked as the 4th best prospect in Minnesota by Prep Baseball Report.

Bergstrom, a left handed pitcher from Notre Dame College Prep (Niles, IL), has shown great command for a young arm. In 42.2 innings of work during his senior season, he tallied an impressive 1.64 ERA with a .98 WHIP. Bergstrom’s best outing came against Carmel Catholic High School in six innings, he sent down 5 batters and retired a streak of 11 straight during the outing. He was ranked as the 13th best left-handed pitching prospect in Illinois by Perfect Game.

The Creighton Baseball squad opens the 2019 season with a three-game series at Arkansas-Little Rock beginning Friday at 3:00 pm.
