Mallards sign three pitchers to 2019 roster

Madison, WI- The Mallards have signed three pitchers to join the 2019 roster. Sophomores, Jake Posey (University of Montevallo) and Quinn Gudaitis (Illinois Wesleyan University), and junior Lowell Schipper (University of Richmond) will be playing at the Duck Pond this summer.

Posey, a redshirt sophomore from Chelsea, Alabama, appeared in six games his freshman season. Before using his redshirt eligibility in his second season, he compiled a 2-2 record and struck out 17 over 22.0 innings pitched. So far, in 2019, Posey has pitched in seven games for a total of 9.1 innings, sending down 11 batters and earning one save. Montevallo’s next matchup is Saturday, at home against the University of West Alabama.

Gudaitis, a 6-foot-6 pitcher from Arlington Heights, Illinois, is entering his second season with the Titans. He had a successful freshman campaign in 2018 where he earned a 3-1 record with a 4.22 ERA by recording 22 strikeouts while only walking seven batters in 12 appearances. Illinois Wesleyan has had three games canceled due to weather, causing Gudaitis to have only pitched in one inning this season, putting up zero runs and not allowing a hit. Their next game is Friday against Illinois College in Kissimmee, Florida, part of the Russmatt Central Florida Invitational.

Schipper, a junior out of Santa Monica, California, brings some experience to the roster. In his sophomore season, he made 15 appearances, with six starts on the hill. He pitched 29.0 innings and tallied up 28 strikeouts, fanning five batters in one game on two separate occasions. In his current campaign, he has made three appearances, totaling 8.2 innings pitched with four strikeouts and a 3.12 ERA. Richmond has had a fast start to their season, starting 8-2 and their next contest is March 8 at Davidson, airing on ESPN+.
