Sunday’s Action

The Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers beat the Duluth Huskies 12-7 on Sunday night as the two teams combined to knock out 34 hits. The Lunkers had 19 hits while the Huskies had 15, but committed two errors and walked four batters. Brainerd’s Stephen Wickens, TJ Berge and Tommy Reyes each had three hits while Hogan Jackson had two hits and drove in three runs in the victory. Mark Threlkeld hit his 10th home run of the season in the loss for the Huskies which ties him with Scott Schebler of the Green Bay Bullfrogs for the league lead.

Pappel Throws Gem for Thunder Bay

Corey Pappel (Cornell-NY) earned his 5th win of the season as he beat the Willmar Stingers 2-1 in Thunder Bay. Pappel threw a five hitter over 7.1 innings while striking out seven Stingers and only allowing one run. The 6’6’’ righty currently has a 3.63 ERA in 12 appearances.

Lind Has Perfect Night At Plate

Rob Lind had an impressive night on Saturday as the Woodchucks beat the Loggers 13-3 at Athletic Park in Wausau, WI. Lind was a perfect 5-for-5 with three runs scored and one RBI. He is currently hitting .327 with 74 hits while 15 of those have gone for doubles. Lind is 9 for his last 14 while the Woodchucks are 3-0 in those games.

The Wisconsin Woodchuck bats were hot Saturday night as they knocked out 20 hits in a 13-3 victory. Rob Lind led the way at the plate with a perfect 5-for-5 night with three runs scored and one RBI. Travis Whitmore and Jamie Bruno each had three hits while Brian Sharp knocked in three runs. Jason Martyn earned his 1st win of the season as he threw a six hitter thru 5.0 innings. Mick Doyle was 2-for-3 in the loss for the Loggers.

Goldberg Throws Gem

Brad Goldberg (Coastal Carolina) of the Eau Claire Express earned his 3rd win of the season as he beat the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters. Goldberg threw a complete game five hitter while striking out six Rafters. The 6’4’’ 225-pound righty currently has a 3.97 ERA in 59 innings pitched. He has struck out 48 batters on the season while only walking 31.

Scanlon Drives in Three in Mallard Win

Justin Scanlon (Madison College) led the Mallards offensively Friday night. Scanlon was 3-for-5 with one run scored and three RBI in the win against the La Crosse Loggers. The 6’1’’ righty from Verona, WI is currently hitting .328 with 19 hits and 8 RBI on the season.

The Willmar Stingers took game one of the double header 11-7 thanks to five multi-hit games from Willmar hitters. Mikey Reynolds (St. Mary’s) was 3-for-4 while Anthony Bemboom (Creighton), Carlos Leyva (Cal State Dominguez Hills), Eduardo Gonzalez (Alcorn State) and Joe Sever (Pepperdine) all had two hits in the win. Alexandria hit the ball well in the loss with five players also have multi-hit games. All-Star Marcus Semien (California Berkeley) was 2-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI in the loss.

Flemer Fans Eight Mallards

Matt Flemer (California Berkeley) earned a much needed win for the La Crosse Loggers Thursday night. Flemer threw 7.0 innings while giving up three runs and striking out eight. The 6’2’’ righty is now 8-2 in ten games started with a 2.05 ERA. Flemer leads the Loggers in innings pitched, wins, and strikeouts in 2010.

Eichstaedt Drives in Four for Bullfrogs

Andrew Eichstaedt (Wisconsin Whitewater) had a great day at the plate for the Green Bay Bullfrogs. Eichstaedt was 4-for-6 in the win against Battle Creek with four RBI and one run scored. The 6’1’’ 190 pound utility player has seven hits in three games for Green Bay. Chris O’Dowd had three hits in the Loggers win with two RBI and a homerun.

NWL Playoff Tie Breaker Information

The NWL 2010 season is winding down and the playoff scenarios are abundant. There are eight teams within the North and South Division that have an opportunity to make the playoffs. The North Division has four teams atop the standings and are only separated by 2.0 games. The South Division also has four teams who are trailing the 1st Half Champion Eau Claire Express. The Express are one of the South Division playoff representatives while the other four teams are separated by 1.5 games.
