Boykin Has Big Day for River Bats

Brandon Boykin (Rutgers) finished 4-for-5 with a double and three RBI as the River Bats recorded 27 hits during the two-game series with the Lunkers. The right fielder is currently hitting .308 for the River Bats and hit .283 for the Scarlet Knights with seven homeruns and 29 RBI. He was also second on the team with 15 stolen bases in 19 attempts.

Rain Postpones Multiple NWL Games

Wisconsin 7, Green Bay 3 The Wisconsin Woodchucks took their second game in a row from the Green Bay Bullfrogs, winning 7-3 at Joannes Stadium Saturday afternoon. The Woodchucks grabbed the lead early and held it for the entire game. Jamie Bruno (Tulane) got the ‘Chucks started in the top of the second, when he hit a two-run home run to dead center field off Bullfrog starter Jeff Donovan (UW-Whitewater). After starting the year 0-11, Bruno collected three straight hits, including the home run, and finished the day 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Wausau native Seth McMullen (Winona State) got into the act in the 4th inning when he hit a 3-run home run to left field and advanced the Woodchucks’ lead to four.

Dittman Has Three-Hit Day

Matt Dittman (Illinois) led the Honkers going 3-for-4 with one run scored and a stolen base in a losing effort to the Thunder Bay Border Cats. The 6’2’’ lefty swinging Dittman is currently hitting .400 for Rochester and had 22 hits in 14 starts for the Fighting Illini this spring.

Sutherland Shuts Down Brainerd

Nick Sutherland (Youngstown State) has been around St. Cloud for the past four seasons due to transferring to a new school. Sutherland threw 7.1 strong innings against the Brainerd Area Lakes Lunkers. The 6’1’’ righty gave up five hits and zero runs while striking out seven Lunkers and walking none. Sutherland sat out this season at Youngstown State per NCAA regulations on transferring.

Friday Night’s Exciting Games

Rochester 5, Mankato 4 The Honkers were led by their offense and a strong pitching performance from Rochester native Josh McKeon (Upper Iowa) who threw 6.1 innings and gave up five hits and three strikeouts. The Honkers were led once again by Bryan Lippincott (Concordia St. Paul) at the plate. Lippincott went 3-for-5 while Jordan Tripp (Golden West) went 3-for-5 with two RBI. The Moondogs were led by third basemen Jordan Steranka (Penn State) who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a walk.

NWL Bats Come Alive

The Thunder Bay Border Cats took their second game in two days from the Duluth Huskies. The Border Cats won by a score of 4-3 in front of a crowd of 621 at Port Arthur Smith Stadium. Zak Miller (New Mexico) threw 2.1 innings in relief of Thunder Bay starter John Tatum (McNeese State). Miller struck out three while giving up two hits to get the win against Huskie starter Conner Hulse (Harvard). Thunder Bay had three players with two-hit performances in A.J. Schugel (Central Arizona College) 2 for 3, Ty Wosleger (Fairfield) 2 for 3, and Nick Beamon (Ripon) 2 for 4. Thunder Bay finishes their three game set with the Huskies Friday at 6:35 in Thunder Bay.
