The Wisconsin Woodchucks snapped their losing streak with a victory over the Duluth Huskies at Athletic Park (pictured) in Wausau, Wisconsin. All 14 teams were in action Friday night in the Northwoods League.

Knight Sparks Express To Victory Over MoonDogs

Leadoff man Robbie Knight (Creighton) was the catalyst all night for the Eau Claire Express in their 6-3 victory over Mankato. Knight finished 2-3 with two runs and two RBI. He also clubbed a double and a home run, his second of the year, and also added two walks.

Mergen Tosses Complete Game Shutout For Lunkers

Even though 11 men reached base for the Bullfrogs, starter Brad Mergen (Indian Hills CC) didn't allow a single run to score in his complete game performance. Mergen fought back time-and-time again against Green Bay and continued to shine when it mattered most. He allowed a measly four hits, walked six, and struck out six in nine innings. In addition, he picked up his third victory of the year and dropped his ERA to 2.10.

The Alexandria Beetles walked off a winner over the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers in the bottom of the ninth, 5-4, at Knute Nelson Memorial Field (pictured) highlighting the action in the NWL Thursday night.

Argo, Bucks Pound Bombers

Willie Argo put an exclamation point on the Waterloo Bucks big night, hitting a two-run blast well over the left field fence to make the score 9-0 over the Battle Creek Bombers. Argo would finish the night 2-for-5 with a walk, a triple, a home run, three runs scored, and two RBI. Waterloo pounded out 22 hits in the 14-0 victory over Battle Creek.

Self, Ringenberg Lead Madison, Eau Claire

Madison pitcher Derek Self (Louisville) was in command throughout the night in only allowing one unearned run in eight innings of work. He (2-1) scattered five hits and lowered his ERA to 3.22 on the year. Honorable Mention: Jon Ringenberg (Baylor) allowed just three hits over eight innings, with no walks and three strikeouts to help Eau Claire snap their losing streak with a 2-1 victory over Thunder Bay.

The NWL had a full seven game slate Wednesday night. The La Crosse Loggers were victorious at Copeland Park (pictured).

Brantly Homers, Doubles Twice In Loggers Victory

The star offensively for the La Crosse Loggers in their 4-1 victory over Wisconsin was Rob Brantly (UC-Riverside) who went 3-4 with two doubles and a home run. Brantly hit a lead off home run in the sixth inning to extend the Loggers lead to 3-0.

Mower’s 8 Shutout Innings Lead ‘Cats

Randy Mower (St. Joseph's) pitched eight shutout innings as Thunder Bay blanked the first half South Division champ Eau Claire 7-0. Mower evened his record to 3-3 allowing just five hits, while walking two and striking out four.
