Bats explode, pitching holds up in Huskies victory.

DULUTH, Minn. – In what might be the game of the Northwoods League season, the Huskies beat the Loggers on the road by a score of 9-7. 

 

Devin Dodson was on the bump for the Huskies, and Garrett Rennie got the start for the Loggers. 

 

The action got started early as Kristian Campbell blasted his second home run of the season in the top of the first to bring in two runs.

 

Two innings later with runners on the corners and one away, Ambren Voitik got an RBI of his own with a single that brought in Rosario. But in the bottom half of the frame Landon Wallace ripped an RBI double, followed by another RBI two-bagger by Colby Morales. At the end of three, the score was 3-2 in favor of Duluth. 

 

The Huskies kept adding on insurance runs as Eddy Rosario hit a 2 RBI single to bring in both Hurdle and Campbell. 

 

Nolan Lebamoff replaced Dodson after three innings pitched, he came into the game with the bases loaded and no one gone. Hornung hit a sac fly, followed by an RBI single from Morales, then another RBI single from Leto. The game was tied at fives after the fourth. 

 

The back and forth affairs continued into the fifth, as Cam Frederick came around to score on a double play which was hit by Vastine. In the very next at bat, JD Rogers ripped an RBI single to make it a 7-5 game. 

 

The Loggers answered back in the bottom half of the frame as Blaise Preister hit a dinger to make it a 7-6 ballgame. 

 

Kristian Campbell added another RBI onto his fantastic night with a single in the top of the seventh to put the Huskies up by two. 

 

Issac Rhode came in the bottom half of the seventh, and loaded the bases. Then Jake Christianson replaced him with the bases juiced and nobody out. He gave up one run on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Jordan Donahue. 

 

Devin Hurdle joined the fun in the top of the 8th with an RBI single to increase the lead back to 2 for Duluth. 

 

At the end of the day the Huskies won this vital ballgame by a score of 9-7. Lebamoff and Christianson were both stars in this one, going three innings each in relief. 

 

Lebamoff was credited with the win (3-0), while Jake Gebb got the loss (1-1)  for the Loggers. Christianson got the nine out save, his 4th of the year.
