Following Saturday’s gut-wrenching loss, the Minot Hot Tots had a chance to redeem themselves on Sunday afternoon, but that bid fell short early on against the St. Cloud Rox. The Rox finished the two-game sweep with a 15-1 win.
Things went south for Minot in a hurry, most credited to St. Clouds hitting ability. The Rox reached base on four hits and a walk in the first inning alone to jump out to a 4-0 lead. Hot Tot starting pitcher Trent Harris exceeded the pitch count limit and was unable to return for the second inning.
Minot was forced to use up their bullpen, and that they did. With five different pitchers used, the Hot Tots could not keep the Rox from running the bases. On the day, St. Cloud would pick up 16 hits and be walked eight times. By the end of the fourth inning, the St. Cloud lead was 12-0.
The Tots never really found a jolt on offense on Sunday. Minot finished with five hits for the game with just one going for extra bases, a ninth inning double by pinch-hitter Bryson Webb. The Tots would score in the eighth inning on a Matt Toomey RBI fielder’s choice.
St. Cloud added some late-inning offense of their own to create the final score of 15-1. The Rox took their 14th consecutive win from the Hot Tots in the victory.
On Monday night, the Tots are back in town. Minot will host the Duluth Huskies for four games in the next three days at Corbett Field.
