Pit Spitters Fan Food Vote Finalists Announced

Sweet and Savory Creations Headlining this year’s contest

Traverse City, MI, May 1, 2024– Get ready, Pit Spitters fans! The Fan Food Vote is here for 2024, kicking off today with the reveal of eight delicious finalists for the 2024 menu! After gathering suggestions from Traverse City and beyond, it’s now your chance to make your voice heard by voting for the next culinary sensation to grace the Pit Spitters menu! “We’re thrilled to involve our fans in the decision-making process once again,” said Charlie Mora, Food and Beverage Manager of the Pit Spitters. “These unique and delicious finalists truly represent the spirit of Traverse City, and we can’t wait to see which one will win the hearts and taste buds of our loyal supporters!”
This year’s menu theme was “Sweet and Savory” and these home chefs delivered! The finalists were selected from over 250 submissions and had to include both a sweet and savory item in the recipe. Without further ado, this year’s finalists are:

  1. Batter Up Cheesy Cherry Dippers: Delicious, deep-fried mozzarella sticks served on a stick with a side of cherry sauce for dipping, submitted by Susannah Wessing.
  2. Bases Loaded Bacon Sundae: Vanilla ice cream drizzled with chocolate and caramel sauce, topped with bacon and peanuts, then finished with whipped cream and a cherry submitted by Kylie Ault.
  3. Cinnamon Roll Chicken Sandwich: Breaded chicken breast served between two warm, jumbo cinnamon rolls for a sweet and savory ballpark bite, submitted by John Smith.
  4. Dessert Nachos: Cinnamon-sugar pita chips piled high and topped with two scoops of ice cream, chocolate and caramel sauce, whipped cream, and a cherry, submitted by Ryan Clark.
  5. Great Lakes Coney Dog: A Michigan-made hot dog slathered with Detroit chili sauce, mustard, cheese sauce, jalapeno peppers, and Great Lakes Pickled Jalapeno chips, submitted by Pete Lee.
  6. Hawaiian Brat: An Ebels bratwurst served on a warm Hawaiian roll then topped with mango salsa, pineapple, red onion, and jalapenos for a tropical take on a ballpark classic, submitted by Brandi Trussell.
  7. Pit Bombs: Hard-boiled eggs, battered and deep-fried to golden-brown perfection. Served with a side of cherry jam for dipping, submitted by Ken Anderson.
  8. Sriracha Honey Chicken Waffle Sandwich: Crispy chicken breast coated in sweet and spicy sriracha honey sauce and nestled between two fluffy waffles, submitted by Alex Cesal.

The Pit Spitters are geared up to unveil the 2024 Fan Food Vote winner at the highly anticipated “Food Media Day” on May 8th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Turtle Creek Stadium! We’re inviting members of the media to join us for a taste-of-the-ballpark experience, where you’ll have the chance to sample a few of this year’s mouthwatering submissions and exciting new menu additions before Opening Day! Plus, you’ll be among the first to taste the winning creation, adding an extra dash of excitement to the festivities!

The Pit Spitters begin their 6th season Wednesday, May 29th, at home against the Kokomo Jack Rabbits.
