Fischer Dominates in Home Opener

 

Traverse City, MI – May 29, 2024 – The Traverse City Pit Spitters win game one of the series against the Kokomo Jackrabbits, 2-1. The Pit Spitters improve to 2-1 on the season.

The Pit Spitters offense got rolling in the bottom of the fifth inning when Jt Sokolove led off the inning with a walk. Ethan Guerra doubled to right field to put runners on second and third with just one out. After Sokolove got tagged out trying to retreat back to third, Brody Capps doubled to center field scoring Guerra to take a 1-0 lead. The Jackrabbits didn’t stay quiet for long as Jack Dupuis led the top of the sixth inning off with a walk followed by a Derek Bermudez infield single to put two runners on with no one out. Kristian Noriega dropped a sacrifice bunt to move the runners up, and then it was John Curl who grounded out to first which brought in Dupuis to tie the game at 1-1. The Pit Spitters responded as Michael Tchavdarov was hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning. Tchavdarov advanced to second on a wild pitch thrown by Dolan Ramsey and then scored on a single hit by Matt Earley to give the Pit Spitters a 2-1 lead.

The Pit Spitters improve to 2-1 on the season, while the Jackrabbits drop to 0-3. The Pit Spitters starting pitcher Carson Fischer threw seven innings, giving up just one run on five hits, two walks, and struck out five. Santiago Garcia threw an inning of relief striking out one and walking one. Mason Hill came in to close out the game throwing an inning, striking out one, walking one, and earning the save.

The Pit Spitters will stay in Traverse City for game two of the four game homestand. First pitch is 11:05AM. All league games are viewable live via the Northwoods League Website.
