Pitching Stays Hot; Pit Spitters Win Fourth Straight
Traverse City, MI – May 31, 2024 – The Traverse City Pit Spitters win game one of the series against the Kalamazoo Growlers, 5-1. The Pit Spitters improve to 4-1 on the season.
The Growlers offense was the first to the punch in the top of the second inning as Kevin Krill led the inning off by getting hit by a pitch. Krill was able to advance to second after Jeremy Comer grounded out to third and made his way to third on a pass ball during Evan Rodriguez’s at-bat. Following a walk by Rodriguez, Krill was able to score on a wild pitch to give the Growlers a 1-0 lead. The Pit Spitters didn’t waste any time to respond as Brody Capps led off the bottom of the second inning with a single to left field. Carter Hain drew a walk and then it was Brandon Chang who tripled to left field clearing the bases to give the Pit Spitters a 2-1 lead. Matt Earley singled to center field, scoring Chang, to extend the Pit Spitters lead to 3-1. Jt Sokolove capped off the inning with a double to left field that scored Earley to make it a 4-1 game. The Pit Spitters offense picked it back up in the bottom of the seventh with a leadoff single to left field from Trent Reed. Corey Berry was able to pick up an insurance run for the Pit Spitters as he doubled to center field, scoring Reed, making it 5-1.
The Pit Spitters improve to 4-1 on the season, while the Growlers drop to 2-3. The Pit Spitters starting pitcher Jaxon Huffman threw a shutout inning, giving up a walk. Collin Bradley threw two innings of scoreless ball walking and striking out one. Seth Gurr threw five scoreless innings giving up three hits, one walk, and striking out three. Mitchell Grannan came on for the final inning, striking out one and didn’t give up a run.
The Pit Spitters stay in Traverse City for the final game of the four game homestand as they’ll face the Kalamazoo Growlers again tomorrow night. First pitch is 7:05PM.
