ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Every Stinger had either an RBI or a run scored in the six-run first inning that helped propel Willmar to a 7-2 victory over the St. Cloud River Bats at Joe Faber Field Wednesday night.
Rob Elliott (Bradley), Jason Leblebijian (Bradley) and Jarid Scarafiotti (Stephen F. Austin) all had multi-hit games, while John Haberman (Pacific) had his second multi-RBI game against St. Cloud this season. Elliott and Leblebijian each went 2-for-5 with a run scored. Scarafiotti went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base.
Elliott led off the game with a double, which began a streak of the first seven batters all reaching base for the Stingers as part of a first inning where Willmar scored six runs on two hits against the starter Andy Urban. The Stingers added an insurance run in the ninth after Sean Dwyer (Florida Gulf Coast) reached on a walk, stole second base and scored on an RBI single by Haberman.
Tanner Banks (Salt Lake College) improved to 3-0 on the year after only allowing two runs on six hits in 7 1/3 innings. Banks struck out nine and did not walk a single batter. Chris Gonzales (Point Loma Nazarene) entered in the eighth inning and recorded the final five outs of the game.
