WILLMAR, Minn. – Eduardo Gonzalez (Alcorn State) and Sean Dwyer (Florida Gulf Coast) each hit home runs, but Alexandria scored 12 runs in the first three innings to cruise to a 17-4 victory over the Willmar Stingers Sunday afternoon at Knute Nelson Memorial Park in Alexandria, Minn.

The Stingers led 1-0 in the middle of the first inning after Jason Leblebijian (Bradley) reached on a fielder’s choice, advanced to second on his 16th stolen base of the season and eventually scored his team-leading 41st run of the year on a wild pitch. Prior to Leblebijian’s at-bat, Mitch Rowan (Willamette) led the game off with a single. Rowan finished the game 2-for-2 with a double before being taken out in the fourth inning when the score was 12-1.

After the Stingers took the 1-0 lead, Alexandria scored 15 unanswered runs – three in the first, three in the second, six in the third, and three in the fifth. Chris Fritts, Mike LeViseur and Kevin Grove all had home runs for the Beetles in the game.

Gonzalez hit a solo home run to the deepest part of the ballpark, 385 feet in left-center field, to break the Beetles’ streak and make it a 15-2 ballgame in the sixth. Dwyer added a two-run homer in the ninth, his fifth home run and 25th RBI of the season, to make the final score 17-4.

The Stingers will now play three games at Rochester before returning home Thursday, August 4, for \”Jerseys Off Our Back Night\” presented by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Fans will be able to bid on the Stingers players’ jerseys during Thursday night’s game with the proceeds going to the Willmar Lakes Area Food Shelf. Monday’s game in Rochester begins at 7:05 p.m.
