WILLMAR, Minn. – Max Kuhn blasted a ball deep over the left-field fence with Kenny Roberts on base in the ninth inning to end the game and give the Stingers their second-straight 4-2 victory against Rochester at Bill Taunton Stadium Tuesday night.

Kuhn’s (Kentucky) third home run of the year marked the second walk-off homer for the Stingers this season with the other one coming from Michael Suchy (Florida Gulf Coast) in the 14th inning against Rochester on June 22.

The walk-off homer came after the Honkers tied the game in the top half of the inning on a two-run single by Reid Roper after the Stingers pitching staff shut down the Rochester offense for the first eight frames. As a result, Jonathon Flinn (Hawaii) did not receive a decision in his best outing of the year after going six innings, striking out four and surrendering only three hits.

Kody Gorden (Nevada) added 1.1 innings of scoreless relief, and Scott Lieser (St. Cloud State) pitched the final 1.2 innings, giving up the Honkers’ only two runs on four hits. Lieser received the victory, though, since he was the pitcher of record when Kuhn ended the game.

The Stingers only other runs came in third inning with back-to-back RBIs by Forrestt Allday (Central Arkansas) and Mitch Rowan (San Francisco). After Zach Benson (Stephen F. Austin) reached on an error with one out, Brennan Moore (Texas Tech) reached on a fielder’s choice where Benson was also safe at second base. Allday then ripped a double to right-center field for the second-straight night to score Benson and give the Stingers the first lead of the game. Rowan followed with a sacrifice fly to center field to bring home Moore for his 33rd RBI of the season and put Willmar in front, 2-0.

Willmar remained 1.5 games in front of the Huskies in the second-half standings with 11 games remaining after Duluth also won its contest on Tuesday.

The Stingers will try to complete a three-game sweep of the Honkers Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. It’s Salute to Agriculture Night presented by Central Lakes Cooperative and West Central, Inc. All fans will receive free sweet corn throughout the game.
