WILLMAR, Minn. – Blake Shepherd (Viterbo) hit blasted two solo home runs as the Willmar Stingers defeated the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers, 6-0, to complete a three-game sweep of the visiting Lunkers. Shepherd finished the game 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs. He now has four homers in five games with Willmar.

Sean Dwyer (Florida Gulf Coast) added two RBIs for the Stingers on a 1-for-4 day at the plate, while Anthony Hincy (Doane College), Eduardo Gonzalez (Alcorn State) and Jarid Scarafiotti (Stephen F. Austin) each scored runs. Stinnett joined Shepherd with a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 in the contest.

Michael Shreves (Montevallo) received the win on the mound, pitching three innings of one-hit baseball in relief of the starter John Haberman (Pacific). Shreves now has a 2-0 record with an 0.60 ERA out of the bullpen this season. Haberman went 3 3/2 innings in his first start of the season, striking out four and only allowing three hits. Chris Gonzalez (Point Loma Nazarene) allowed only one hit in 1 2/3 innings, while Jason West (Stephen F. Austin) struck out the only two batters he faced to close the game.

Eight different Stingers had hits in the game, who took all three games from the Lunkers by a combined score of 20-6. The Stingers never trailed in any of the three games. Willmar has a day off Sunday before beginning a stretch where the team plays nine out of 10 games on the road. Willmar’s next game will be at Alexandria Monday night at 7:05 p.m.

Willmar’s next home will be Thursday, June 30, at 7:05 p.m. It is Beer, Brats and Baseball Night presented by Westside Liquor. Pre-game beer tasting and speciallty brats from Wick’s Meat Shoppe will be available for 200 fans purchasing special tickets to the pre-game event. Limited tickets are still available for the pre-game event, which also includes a ticket to the game.
