THUNDER BAY, Ontario – Three-run doubles by Steve Talbott (Purdue) and Hunter Dozier (Stephen F. Austin) helped Willmar plate nine runs in the first inning and cruise to a 14-2 victory against Thunder Bay at Port Arthur Stadium Sunday afternoon.

In a first inning that featured eight walks and a hit batter along with Talbott’s and Dozier’s doubles, Willmar (5-7) scored nine runs on only two hits. Every starter touched the plate once in the inning to take a nine-run lead before Thunder Bay (4-8) even had a chance to bat. Zach Benson (Stephen F. Austin) and Forrestt Allday (Central Arkansas) each earned an RBI in the frame on bases-loaded walks.

Jerad McCrummen (Texas Tech) earned his first victory of the year after allowing two runs – one which was unearned – on six hits in seven innings while striking out two. Kody Gorden (Nevada) struck out three in the final two innings without allowing a hit or base on balls.

Leading 9-0, Mitch Rowan (San Francisco) singled in the fifth inning to score JD Dorgan (St. Thomas) and Logan Allen (Occidental College). Allen finished the game with three runs scored and is now tied with Rowan for the team lead in that category with 11.

The Stingers tacked on a run in the eighth with back-to-back doubles by Michael Suchy (Florida Gulf Coast) and Steven Brault (Regis). The double by Brault gave him his 11th RBI of the year, eight of which have come with two outs in an inning. Andre Wheeler (Texas Tech) and Max Kuhn (Kentucky) came off the bench to get base hits in the ninth. Kuhn’s single gave him his second RBI this season.

The Stingers will travel to Duluth Monday to begin a three-game series against the Huskies. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
