MANKATO, Minn. Two separate two-run homers by Craig Massoni led the Mankato MoonDogs to a 6-1 victory over the Willmar Stingers at Franklin Rogers Park Monday afternoon.

Willmar (16-11) picked up its only run in the ninth inning after Zach Benson (Stephen F. Austin) walked with two outs and scored on an RBI single by Brady Anderson (Florida Gulf Coast) in his only at-bat in the game. The Stingers only produced two hits in the contest with the other hit coming from Michael Suchy (Florida Gulf Coast) in the fourth. Mitch Rowan (San Francisco) reached base twice on walks, as did Benson. Suchy reached three times with a walk and a hit batsman to go along with his base hit.

Andrew Pulido (San Francisco) suffered the loss after giving up six runs on seven hits in five innings. Kody Gorden (Nevada) came out of the bullpen to pitch the final three innings, striking out four while allowing only one hit.

Outside of the ninth inning, Willmar’s best opportunity came in the fifth inning when the Stingers loaded the bases with three walks, but they could not push across a run and ended up stranding 10 men in the game.

Willmar will return to Bill Taunton Stadium to play the Mankato MoonDogs Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m.
