ALEXANDRIA–The Beetles got out to a quick lead on Monday, scoring five runs in the second inning off Willmar starter Roy Metter and never looked back, beating the Stingers 6-3 in the first of a three game series. Metter was relieved by Jeff Barto after the third and the Campbellsville lefty looked solid, giving up just one run in five innings pitched.

Eduardo Gonzalez hit his first home run of the season in the fifth, and Jordan Smith added an RBI hit, but it wasnt enough as the Stingers never got into an offensive rhythm on Monday. Next up for the 26-24 Stingers, it’s a pair with the Beetles at Bill Taunton Stadium starting at 7:05 pm on Tuesday. For tickets, call 320-222-2010 or check out willmarstingers.com.
