Two Stingers had stellar games for their respective college teams this past weekend. Dillon Haupt, senior catcher for the University of San Diego, led his team offensively, going 4-5 at the plate with two homeruns, two doubles, five RBI and four runs scored in their 15-4 win over Stony Brook at the UNC-Wilmington Hughes Brothers Challenge.

\”I’ve been hitting with two strikes a lot lately,\” said cleanup hitter, Haupt. \”I trust my swing and approach enough to foul off pitches until I can get something to drive. I was getting good pitches to hit and just didn’t miss them.\”

The Toreros are now 7-4 and are looking to carry the momentum from their five-game winning streak onto their home field, the brand new Fowler Park, where they play their next nine games.

Meanwhile, in Colorado, Steven Brault, a junior outfielder/pitcher went the distance for the Regis Rangers on Sunday. Brault, a native of San Diego, Calif., pitched a complete game shutout against the Colorado Mines, striking out a personal best 16 batters in the process.

\”My fastball and slider felt really good,\” said Brault. \”I wasn’t afraid to throw strikes because I have confidence in the defense behind me.\”

Brault, a two-way player for the Rangers, also went 1-4 at the plate while scattering six hits over nine innings. The Rangers are reigning conference champions and are now 8-2 overall.

Haupt and Brault are not strangers to success on the field, as both had outstanding seasons with the Stingers last summer. Haupt was batting .336 with seven homeruns for the Stingers after joining the team in late June, while Brault followed with a batting average of .327 and an ERA of 1.22 with a six-inning, 10 strikeout performance on June 30.

The 2013 Stingers Season is presented by Charter Communications and will be kicked off with the home opener on May 29, presented by Marcus Construction. First pitch is 7:05 pm.
