WILLMAR, Minn. – Willmar scored six runs in the first two innings, but did not score after that and narrowly held on to a 6-5 victory over the Alexandria Beetles at Knute Nelson Memorial Park Monday night. Four Stingers had multi-hit games led by Rob Elliott (Bradley) who went 2-for-5 with two runs, two stolen bases and one RBI. Sean Dwyer went 2-for-4 with one run and two RBIs. Eduardo Gonzalez (Alcorn State) and Mitch Rowan (Willamette) also had two hits each.

Michael Jahns (Northwestern)earned the victory after his longest outing of the year, allowing three runs in 5 1/3 innings. Kurt Spomer (Creighton) picked up the save by getting the final five outs of the game. The game ended on a spectacular diving stop by Gonzalez at first base to begin a 3-6-3 double play with the tying run on third base and the winning run on first.

The two teams will meet again Tuesday night in Alexandria at 7:05 p.m.
