THUNDER BAY–In the first game of the season at Port Arthur Stadium in Thunder Bay, the Stingers retained a share of first place in the North Division’s second half standings with a 5-3 win over the Border Cats on Friday night. After falling behind early, the Stingers overcame early deficits of 2-0 and 3-2 to seize control of the game with a pair of runs in the fifth.

Stingers starter Charley Olson managed to break the .500 mark, improving to 5-4 on the year after a six inning, three run outing, striking out six Border Cats and walking just three batters over that span. At the plate, Mikey Reynolds had another big day, going three for four with two doubles, a single, a pair of RBI’s, and a run scored. Also contributing offensively was Eduardo Gonzalez, who tacked on a two run double of his own.

Next up for the Stingers, it’s the finale of a two game set with Thunder Bay on Saturday at 5:35 pm central time at Port Arthur Stadium. After that, the Stingers return home for their final four home games of the season. For tickets, call 320-222-2010 or log on to willmarstingers.com for more information.
