(Willmar, MN) – The Northwoods League has recently announced the 2013 Willmar Stingers schedule which will begin at the end of May. The Stingers home opener will be at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29 against the Thunder Bay Border Cats. The Stingers fourth season home opener will be presented by Marcus Construction and the 100,000th fan in franchise history will pass thru the gates that night.

As in the past, the upcoming season will be comprised of 70-regular season games and a Summer Collegiate World Series to follow. The regular season consists of 35 home and 35 road games for all 16-league franchises located in Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan and the country of Canada. In 2013, the Northwoods League will celebrate its 20th anniversary and continues to be the largest summer collegiate league in the country and plays more games than any other summer league.

The Northwoods League is comprised of a North and South Division. The Willmar Stingers compete in the North Division with hopes of returning to the post-season in mid August. The Stingers advanced to the playoffs for the first time in 2012, before falling to Mankato in Game 3 of the North Divisional Playoffs.

New in 2013 will be interleague play as the Stingers will travel and play host to the Green Bay Bullfrogs and the Madison Mallards. The Mallards in 2012 averaged just over 6,000 fans a game and will enter their 13th season in the league, while the Bullfrogs will celebrate their 8th year in the league. Tickets for all these games will be available in the next coming months on-line at willmarstingers.com.

Season tickets and other ticket plan options are now available for next season. Three season ticket packages are currently available for 34-home games (Reserved, Box and Westside Liquor Diamond View). The Stingers also offer two mini-plans for 2013, which include the Stingers 6-pack and 8-game mini plan. The Stingers 6-pack includes food and drink thru the 5th inning for six select premium games.
