WILLMAR–In the finale of a five game homestand, and in the final meeting between the Huskies and Stingers in the 2010 season, Duluth came away with a 5-0 win over Willmar on Saturday at Bill Taunton Stadium. Stingers starter Matt Collins was superb in his third start of the season, giving up just two earned runs on six hits while striking out four Huskies, while pitching into the eighth inning.

Collins was good, but Duluth starter Josh Renfro was better. The southpaw nearly shut out the Stingers, but left after the eighth inning with seven hits allowed, no runs against him, and seven strikeouts. The Stingers never quite clicked offensively, scattering eight hits over the course of the game, but never managing back to back base knocks. The loss knocks Willmar out of second place alone in the North Division’s second half standings, and drops their record to 27-24 overall.

Next up for the Stingers, it’s a pivotal two game series in St. Cloud starting Sunday at 6:05 pm at Joe Faber Field.
