BRAINERD, Minn. – Blake Shepherd (Viterbo) and Garrett Borba (Pacific) each had two RBIs, but the Willmar Stingers fell to the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers Sunday afternoon at Stewart C. Mills Field, 7-4.

The Lunkers scored three runs on two hits in the bottom of the third inning and never surrendered the lead. Willmar responded with a two-run fourth inning on a two-out, two-run double by Shepherd, but that was as close as the Stingers would get the remainder of the game. Brainerd added a run in each of the fourth and fifth innings and two runs in the seventh to stretch its lead, 7-2.

In the top of the eighth inning, Borba came to the plate with the bases loaded and two out. Borba singled to bring home Jake Stinnett (Maryland) and Anthony Bemboom (Creighton) as the final tallies of the game. Eduardo Gonzalez (Alcorn State) and Pat Stover (Santa Clara) each had two hits in the game. John Haberman (Pacific) took the loss after allowing four runs in four innings.

Willmar will play the first of three games at Duluth Monday afternoon at 2:05 p.m.
