WILLMAR, Minn. – Mitch Rowan (Willamette) had a perfect day at the plate with a 4-for-4 performance that included two doubles, two runs and his team-leading 22nd stolen base of the season in a game where seven different Stingers had hits and seven different Stingers scored runs to concluded the 2011 season with an 8-3 victory against the Alexandria Beetles Sunday evening at Bill Taunton Stadium.

Sean Dwyer (Florida Gulf Coast) was close behind with a 3-for-4 day with two RBIs and a run. Anthony Bemboom (Creighton) hit his second home run of the season in the third inning, while Pat Stover (Santa Clara) also had a multi-RBI game thanks to a two-run single in the first inning to give Willmar a lead that they would never relinquish.

Ben Burns (Daytona State College) earned his third victory of the season after going five innings and allowing two runs on six hits. Burns also struck out two batters in the contest. Jack Shannon (San Diego) worked a perfect sixth inning with one strikeout to finish the year with a 1.27 ERA. Michael Shreves (Montevallo) allowed one run and struck out one in the seventh, and Tanner Banks (Salt Lake College) had a strikeout in two scoreless innings to seal the victory.

Willmar finished the year 39-31, an identical mark to their inaugural season of 2010. The Stingers finished the second half with a 22-16 mark, the most victories for any half in the franchise’s two year history, which was good enough for second place in the North Division.

Eduardo Gonzalez (Alcorn State) went 1-for-5 in the game with a run and an RBI to finish the season with a .323 batting average and 35 RBIs, which tied Dwyer for the second most on the team behind Jason Leblebijian (Bradley).  Leblebijian finished the year with 37 RBIs as well as a team-high 53 runs after going 1-for-4 with a run in Sunday’s game. Mitch Delfino (California) added an RBI and a run, while Blake Shepherd (Viterbo) was 1-for-4 with a double.
