Hughston and Webb will add depth to Stingers outfield
Willmar, Minn. – The Willmar Stingers are excited to announce that they have added two new faces to the 2014 roster from the University of Alabama. Freshman outfielders Casey Hughston and Hunter Webb will make their way to Willmar this summer from Tuscaloosa, AL. With these two additions, the roster is now comprised of 20 players for the 2014 season, the Stingers fifth in the Northwoods League.
Hughston, a 6-foot-2 inch, 215-pound freshman is originally from Mobile, AL and has appeared in six games this spring for Alabama. In five starts, Hughston has shown some power for the Crimson Tide with 2 home runs and 3 RBI in the early going. Coming out of high school, he was named to the All-State team by the Alabama Sports Writers Association in 2013. Hughston had a stellar senior season amassing a .406 average, hitting 7 home runs and 26 RBI.
Webb, a 5-foot-11 inch, 190-pound freshman is from Phenix City, AL and is also seeing time in the outfield in the first part of the season. Webb has seen action in 8 games making 4 starts. Webb is batting .250 with 5 hits, including 1 double, and is a perfect 2-for-2 in stolen base attempts. Similar to Hughston, Webb was much heralded coming out of high school in the state of Alabama. Webb was ranked as the 10th best prospect and 4th best outfielder in the state, as well as the 80th best outfielder in the nation by one publication. Webb was selected to the All-State team by the Alabama Sports Writers Association as well.
“The Stingers have had a positive relationship with Alabama recently by having Kenny Roberts here in Willmar in 2012,” Stingers co-owner Marc Jerzak said. “Alabama players have had some success in the Northwoods League over the recent years and we hope Hughston and Webb can add to that success.”
Field Manager Matt Hollod, along with the Stingers organization, will continue to build the roster for the fifth season of Stingers baseball in 2014. 2014 season tickets for the upcoming season are currently on sale now.
