The Northwoods League, which plays two halves to determine playoff participants, will end the first half of play on July 5 with the second half beginning the following day. Last year’s newly adopted playoff format will continue in 2016. Beginning on August 15 the first and second half divisional champions will have home field advantage on the first day of the one-game elimination divisional playoffs. Their opponents will be determined by the two divisional teams remaining with the best overall records. The winners of those games will play against each other the following day in another one-game elimination division championship. Following an off-day the North and South Division Champions will then meet in a best-of-three series for the Summer Collegiate World Series from August 18-20.
As in years past, the Stingers will face two teams from the South Division in an interleague series. The Stingers will travel to Wisconsin in August and take on the Madison Mallards and to Rockford, IL to face the newest franchise in the Northwoods League. Rockford will visit Willmar July 30-31, while the Mallards head to the Beehive to close out the regular season on August 13-14.
The Stingers staff will continue to build the 2016 roster as the off-season continues. The team hopes to fill a 30-man roster before the start of the season which will begin in late May.
