THUNDER BAY, Ont. — The Stingers offense had scored 25 runs in the first two games of the series against Thunder Bay, but it was held without a run on Saturday night in a 2-0 loss to the Border Cats at Port Arthur Stadium.

Thunder Bay starter Cameron Churchill went 5 2/3 scoreless innings, and the Stingers (15-18) managed just four hits in the third game of the four-game series.

The Stingers fell behind in the early going, as the Border Cats (6-26) scored twice in the first inning on Willmar starter Ty Tice (Central Arkansas). Only one of the runs in the inning was earned against Tice, but Joe Gellenbeck's double plated a pair of runs for the only offense in the game.

Tice settled in nicely after that two-run first inning, and he pitched well enough to pick up his third win of the season. Making his fifth start of the year, Tice allowed just five hits in his six innings of work with three strikeouts. Tice has never allowed more than three earned runs in any of his five starts this year, and the one earned run he surrendered Saturday was the fewest earned runs he has given up this year.

The Stingers offense had its chances to score, putting at least one runner on base in six of the nine innings. But Willmar couldn't get the clutch hits it needed when it had runners aboard, going 0-for-6 as a team with runners in scoring position and leaving 11 total on base.

Dylan Woods (Nova Southeastern) highlighted the Stingers offense with a 2-for-4 night at the plate, which included a double. Woods has at least one hit in eight of his last nine games with four multi-hit efforts in that span.
