Stingers Drop Series Finale In Bismarck

Willmar started the day with Quincy McAfee’s (Pepperdine) walk. It was his first time back in the lineup since Monday evening in Mankato. He stole second base and was then brought in when Marcus Still (New Mexico State) hit a home run to left field.

It was Still’s first home run of the year. It drove in two of the Stingers’ three runs in the evening.

The Larks responded by scoring one run in the first inning. Following that frame, there were four straight scoreless innings until the Stingers put one across in the sixth.

Tyler Reichenborn (Iowa Western) drove in the Stingers’ third run of the evening. It was the seventh run that he has brought in so far in 2017.

Following Reichenborn’s RBI single, the Larks scored three in the sixth inning to take the lead. It then took until the ninth inning for the Stingers to inch toward a comeback.

In the ninth inning, Nolan Bumstead (CS-Northridge) came to the plate with two outs and Myles Smith (Georgia Gwinnett) on first base. On Bumstead's double, Smith tried to score from first to tie it up, but was put out on the relay throw from the Bismarck third baseman.

The tag on Smith ended the ball game, leading to a final score of 4-3.

The Stingers are now 5-5 on the season. They travel to Duluth for two more games against the Huskies. Last weekend, they split 1-1 with the Huskies at Wade Stadium in Duluth.
