BISMARCK, North Dakota – The Stingers scored thirteen runs, including two by Nolan Bumstead (CS-Northridge) and Eli Wilson (Minnesota) who both launched leadoff homers.

Bumstead’s came in the fourth to gain the run of the day on the Larks’ starter Tyler Steele. Wilson’s came three innings later to reinforce the Willmar lead.

It was Bumstead’s fourth and Wilson’s first of the year.

By the end of the day, thirteen was not enough as the Larks scored five in the eighth to pull ahead 15-13.

With the Stingers’ loss, they move to 18-17 on the year. They complete the first half of the season tomorrow, with a chance of finishing tied for third with the Mankato MoonDogs.

Bumstead finished the day just a triple short of the cycle. He has now homered in two straight games and has a team-leading 24 RBI on the year.

Additionally, he once again stands alone atop the Northwoods League with 13 doubles on the year.

Kale Latorre (Montevallo) had a spot start today in replacement of Gus Varland (Concordia-St. Paul), who was originally slated to start. After giving up three runs in the first inning, Latorre settled into a groove and threw three scoreless innings to complete the day after four innings.

There were six home runs between the two teams to contribute to 10 total extra base hits.

Game two is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. tomorrow. The start time was shifted earlier in celebration of the Fourth of July. Joe Vranesic (Kent State) is expected to start on the mound for Willmar. You can listen live on WillmarStingers.com or follow along on Twitter at @WillmarStingers.
