WILLMAR, Minn. – The Stingers, led by designated hitter Alex Reyes (New Mexico State), scored double digit runs for the sixth time this season in their 10-7 victory over the Honkers Friday evening.

Reyes got his third start in the lineup this season as the designated hitter. Coming into the game, he was 1-for-7 on the season at the plate, and he has never gotten an at bat at New Mexico State.

He came out swinging early on Rochester's starting pitcher, Drew Slade. On the first pitch he saw in the first inning, he hit a sacrifice fly into deep center field to drive in his college teammate, Marcus Still (New Mexico State).

The next inning, he swung at another first pitch and laced a two-run double down the right field line.

In addition, the Stingers scored three more early runs on Rochester, providing support to starter Gus Varland (Concordia-St. Paul) who earned his fifth win of the season on the mound.

In the fourth, Reyes was due up once again with runners on base, this time with all three bags occupied. On the 1-0 pitch, he sent a base-clearing double to the left-center field wall for RBIs four, five and six on the day.

He finished the day with two hits and six RBI, which ties the Willmar Stingers' franchise record for a single game. He is the second player to do so this season, the first being Danny Rodriguez (Bethune-Cookman).

Nolan Bumstead (CS-Northridge) also had an impressive day, getting on all five times he went to the plate and scoring four runs. He finished 3-for-4 with one RBI.

The relief pitcher, with four saves on the season, was also named the NWL Player of the Night for the first time this season.

The Stingers move to 14-8 on the second half and 32-26 overall. They stay one pace just one game behind the division leaders, the Eau Claire Express.

They square off in game one against the Express tomorrow evening at 6:35 p.m.
