Willmar, Minn.-   The 2018 season opener went as planned for the Willmar Stingers, who defeated the St. Cloud Rox 6-1 on a windy night at Bill Taunton Stadium.

The Stingers were led by a masterful performance from Starting Pitcher Braden Scott (Olney Central College). Scott went six innings, giving up just four hits, allowing one earned run and striking out 11 Rox. The 11 strikeouts by Scott are good for 3rd most by a Stingers pitcher in a single game. Scott only trails Pittsburgh Pirate and former Stinger Steven Brault and Andrew Woeck (both in 2013).

Offensively for the Stingers it was SS John Trousdale (Alabama) getting it done going 3-3 with two walks, reaching base all five times, tallying an RBI and scoring two runs.

The Stingers will be back in action tomorrow night against the Rox for game two of their opening series.

Scott got the win while the loss was handed to Rox starter Carlo Graffeo (Minnesota State).
