Willmar, Minn.-  After an impressive outing by Braden Scott (Olney Central College) in Tuesday’s home opener (striking out 11), a win for Willmar 6-1. Louie Varland (Concordia, St. Paul) shined in his own right on the mound in a 2-1 victory over the Rox in the series finale Wednesday.

The Stingers were led offensively by Davis Elliot (North Alabama) and Richie Garcia (Florida Gulf Coast) who both tallied RBIs. John Trousdale (Alabama) also impressed once again going 3-5, making him 6-8 through the first two games.

On the hill Varland was spectacular matching his teammate Braden Scott for third most strikeouts in a game by a Stingers hurler, with 11 . The only blemish on his night was a solo homer given up in the sixth inning to St. Cloud first basemen Ryan Lillard (Arizona State).

Although there was some trouble in the ninth, Jayson Newman (CSUN) who was the designated hitter throughout the night came on and captures his first save of the season.

The Stingers won the game 2-1, and improve to 2-0 on the season.

The Stingers are in action tomorrow night to start a new series against the Thunder Bay Border Cats. First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
