Willmar, Minn.- In a game that lasted over four hours, the Willmar Stingers held on to defeat the Mankato Moondogs in 11 innings, improving their record to 5-3.
In the sixth inning, with Willmar leading 5-3, Mankato’s DH Kyle MacDonald () tied the ball game up going deep over the right field wall for a two-run homer. The game would remain tied until the 11th, but during those frames Jake Marsh (Bethel) and Jake Drew (North Dakota State) were absolutely incredible for the Stingers out of the pen. Both Men went combined four innings giving up just three hits and keeping the score tied at five.
In the 11th it was Matt Malkin (Alabama) playing the hero, coming up with the bases loaded Malkin lifted a single into center field scoring Tyler Reichenb
orn (Iowa Western) and giving the Stingers a 6-5 victory.
Up next for Willmar is a date with Thunder Bay across the border tomorrow night.
