Alexandria, Minn.- Every year the Willmar Stingers turn into the Alexandria Beetles for one night to pay tribute to the former Alexandria team in the Northwoods League.

It was a victorious night for the Beetles who defeated the Thunder Bay Border Cats by a final score of 10-7.

Early on it was a back and fourth affair highlighted by a Jayson Newman (Cal State-Northridge) two RBI triple and a two run homer from Caleb Ricca (Northwestern State).

In the seventh things were all knotted up at seven runs for both sides before Alexandria scored two in the sixth inning.

Things for Alexandria would not change as Jake Drew (North Dakota State), who is from Alexandria, shut the door with a two inning save, giving the Beetles the win.

It’s back to the Stingers tomorrow who will face off with the MoonDogs in Mankato for a one game road trip.
