Duluth, Minn.- The Willmar Stingers took on the first place Duluth Huskies on Wednesday in a day/night double header at Wade Stadium in Duluth.

In the first game the Stingers were defeated 7-4 in a back and forth affair that the Stingers make it close in the ninth, scoring two runs and giving the Huskies a run for their money. The Stingers couldn’t overcome the five run differential.

Game one was highlighted by Caleb Ricca (Northwestern State) going 2-3 on the night. Michael Cartwright (Cal-State Northridge) was also impressive tossing 3.2 innings of relief, striking out four and only allowing 1 earned run.

Game two was not as close, the Stingers fell behind 5-0 in the first inning and ended up losing 11-2.

In the game Ricca again had two hits while John Trousdale (Alabama) went 3-5 on his birthday. Sir Gomez (Citrus College) was really good in relief, going 2.2 innings and not allowing a single earned run to cross the plate.

Willmar will move on to Eau Claire tomorrow to take on the Express.
