Willmar, Minn.- On Friday, the Willmar Stingers played a double header against the La Crosse Loggers in two seven inning contests.

In the first game it was all about pitching. Matt Ornelas (Nova Southeastern) was superb once again. Ornelas went 5.1 innings, gave up two hits and allowed just one run. Ornelas got the no decision as the Stingers were held to just two hits and fell 3-2 with the Loggers taking the lead in the seventh while down to their final out.

In game two, the Stingers bats came alive. Willmar compiled 12 hits in back of a solid performance from starter Nick Dentoni (Delta College).

Dentoni lasted five innings, gave up just three hits and allowed one earned run. Dentoni got the win thanks to stellar offense from his team.

Willmar offensively put up nine runs and was led by Davis Elliot (North Alabama), Elliot had two hits and drove in three runs. Other offensive highlights for the Stingers came from the bottom of the lineup. Batters 5-9 all had RBIs and all nine starters for the Stingers had a base hit. Willmar won the game 9-3.

Willmar now sits just a half game out of first place behind the Duluth Huskies and the Loggers.
