On Saturday the Stingers took on the Thunder Bay Border Cats in the first game of the final series of the 2018 regular season.

For the Stingers they entered Saturday’s contest a half game ahead of the Mankato MoonDogs for first place in the North Division.

In the first inning of play the Stingers loaded the bases for Jayson Newman (Cal-State Northridge). Newman connected for his eighth homer of the season, hitting a grand slam and putting the Stingers ahead 4-0. Later in the inning Sebastian Samuels (Montevallo) singled in Davis Elliot (North Alabama) to make it 5-0.

Later on with Willmar ahead 6-4, Elliott contributed with the bat. Elliott doubled down the third base line, driving in Eli Wilson (Minnesota) and putting the Stingers up 7-4 in the fourth.

The Stingers put up another run in the sixth and defeated the Border Cats by a final score of 8-5.

The Mankato MoonDogs did win again against La Crosse and it all comes down to one game. Willmar controls their own destiny and it all comes down to Sunday afternoon against the Border Cats. If Willmar wins then they will be crowned second half champions.

Sunday should be one exciting day of baseball.
