Willmar, Minn.- On Tuesday night, the 2018 Willmar Stingers took the field one final time, falling to the Duluth Huskies 17-7 in the Northwoods League North Division Championship game.

Through four innings of play, the Stingers were looking good. Davis Elliott (North Alabama) singled in the bottom of the third plating Shea Kramer (Utah) and giving the Stingers a 1-0 lead.

Sam Gardner (Alabama) was solid as well early on. Gardner went through four shutout innings and did not surrender a run until the fifth. Gardner departed in the sixth inning, finishing with a line that consisted of four strikeouts, 8 hits and 4 earned runs.

Duluth caught fire scoring 17 unanswered runs against the Stingers and took a 17-1 lead into the ninth.

Willmar, like they have all year, showed heart. The Stingers, in the ninth, put up six runs and fought until the very end eventually falling 17-7.

The Stingers finish their year with an unbelievable record of 30-7 at Bill Taunton Stadium (including postseason), and had one of their most memorable seasons to date.
