Willmar, Minn. – The Willmar Stingers are excited to announce that there will be new host family program coordinators for the 2019 season. Stacy Gillespie and Angie Hoppe will lead the organization’s host family program which includes educating new families, matching families with each student athlete on the Stingers roster and coordinating activities throughout the year. Gillespie and Hoppe have been a part of the Stingers organization for the past six years as host families making the transition to co-coordinators a perfect fit for the upcoming season.  

The Stingers host family program as matched student-athletes from all over the country with local families for the past nine summers. This program has played an integral part in helping 80+ players live out their dreams of playing professional baseball, including the likes of major leaguers Jacob Barnes (Milwaukee Brewers), Steven Brault (Pittsburgh Pirates) and Hunter Dozier (Kansas City Royals). Throughout the years numerous outstanding relationships have been forged between Stingers players and their host families. Graduations, weddings and holidays have often been shared together after the season leading to the Stingers player becoming an honorary member of the family.

The 2019 season, the organization’s tenth season of play in the Northwoods League, will open play on Tuesday, May 28th on the road in Mankato. The Stingers home opener is the following day, Wednesday, May 29th, at Bill Taunton Stadium.
