Willmar, Minn. – The Willmar Stingers are excited to announce four new players who have signed to play during the Stingers 10th season of Northwoods League baseball. The latest players to sign are Branden Boissiere and Bryce Begell from the University of Arizona along with Justin King from the University of Alabama and Trevor Doyle from California State University – Sacramento.
Boissiere, a freshman outfielder from Riverside, CA, has appeared in 15 games this season for the Wildcats. In his first collegiate game against UMass-Lowell earlier this spring he went 1-for-3 at the plate with a base hit, a walk and 2 runs batted in. As a senior at Woodcrest Christian High School, he posted a .371 batting average, along with 26 hits, five doubles, two home runs and 14 RBI. He finished his high school career with an overall batting average of .428, 118 total hits and drove in 64 runs.
Begell, a freshman infielder from Vacaville, CA, is currently redshirting this season for the Arizona Wildcats, however, during his high school career he was a three-year letter winner in baseball. He had a career .329 batting average, along with scoring 63 runs and driving in 40 runs.
Begell is familiar with playing summer collegiate baseball, having played in the Alaska Summer Collegiate League in 2018. As a high school senior, he played for the Peninsula Oilers, where he appeared in 26 games, hitting .230 with three doubles and eight runs scored.
King, a junior infielder from Okotoks, Alberta, transferred to the Crimson Tide after spending his first two years playing at Indian Hills Community College in Iowa. In 2018, King recorded 15 doubles, a team-leading seven triples and hit 13 home runs. He also led the entire Iowa Community College Athletic Conference with 35 extra base hits. King has seen action in 18 games for Alabama this spring. He has started in 10 games and is currently hitting .267 with two doubles, two home runs and 18 walks.
Doyle, a freshman outfielder from Las Vegas, NV, has appeared in 26 games for the Hornets this season and has four doubles, two triples, 10 runs scored and 11 runs batted in. At Cimarron-Memorial High School, Doyle batted .460 with nine doubles, seven triples, three homers and 28 runs batted in as a senior. He scored 54 runs and stole 17 bases as well, earning a spot on the All-Sunset Region first team.
With these latest signings, the roster for next season now includes seven pitchers and twelve position players. As the tenth season approaches, the Stingers front office and coaching staff will continue to build their 30-man roster.
