Willmar, Minn.—The Stingers continue their success against the Moondogs with an 8-2 victory. Willmar is now 7-0 this summer against Mankato.

Solid pitching from both sides kept the game scoreless through four and a half innings of play. Chris Peres (La Verne) made his first start for the Stingers. He went seven strong innings where he allowed one run off four hits. Peres walked one batter while striking out five Moondogs.

Sam Baier (Augustana) got things going for the Stingers in the fifth when he scored Lucas on a sacrifice fly out to right field. In the sixth, it was Kevin Saenz (San Jose State) that walked in a run with the bases loaded. The next batter, Kaden Fowler (Georgia), scored Boissiere with a base hit. 3-0 Stingers

The Moondogs scored their first run of the ball game in the seventh when they strung together a couple hits. 3-1 Stingers. Branden Boissiere (Arizona) answered with a run of his own in the seventh. He scored Walsh from third off a fielding error from the first basemen. The Stingers ran away with the game the very next batter. Brandon Bohning (Northridge) hit a three-run home run to blow the game open 7-1.

Joel Cheatwood (Montevallo) pitched the last two innings of the game for the Stingers. He gave up one earned run in the eighth off two hits. 7-2 Stingers. Justin King (Alabama) added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth when he scored Baier on a single to right field. The Moondogs were able to get a runner on the bases in the ninth, but he was kept at first. The Stingers won 8-2. They will head to Mankato tomorrow for Game 2 of the series. First pitch 6:35pm.
