Willmar, Minn. – The Stingers drop the first game of the season against the La Crosse Loggers Monday night, 9-5.

The Loggers opened the scoring in the first inning on an RBI single by Kyle Casper. He finished the night 4-for-5, with four singles and a walk.

The middle of La Crosse’s order was pesky. The Loggers’ four, five and six hitters went a combined 9-for-14 Monday night.

One bright spot for Willmar was William Hamiter. From the University of Alabama, he made his Stingers debut, and went 2-for-3, with a pair of singles, a walk and two RBI.

Wyatt Wendell got the start, his first appearance on the season. He tossed four innings, give up six hits, four runs (two earned), walked three and struck out three.

Drey Dirksen had a 2-for-4 night, with a single and a home run. He also knocked in two.

Willmar is now 8-7 on the season. The Stingers’ next game is Tuesday, June 15, against La Crosse. First pitch from Bill Taunton Stadium is 7:05 p.m.
