Duluth, Minn. – Duluth blanks Willmar 5-0 Tuesday night to split both this series and the season series.
The Huskies got on the board in the second after scoring twice on a sacrifice fly by Ryan McDonald and double by Xavier Carter.
They then added three unearned runs in the bottom of the eighth. With two outs, a pair came in on an error by shortstop Christopher McDonald, then Ambren Voitik singles home Calyn Halvorson.
Both starting pitchers threw very well. For the Stingers, Jack Blesch went six innings, gave up five hits, two runs (one earned), no walks and three strikeouts.
Duluth starter Ben Gerl threw seven shutout innings, gave up four hits, one walk and struck out five.
The Stingers are off Wednesday and Thursday. The final two games of the season are against the Eau Claire Express, Friday and Saturday. Both first pitches will be at 7:05 p.m.
