Willmar, Minn. – The Willmar Stingers have announced today that General Manager Nick McCallum will be stepping down and leaving the organization at the end of September. McCallum has been the only general manager since the team’s inaugural season in 2010 and began his career in Northwoods League as an intern in 2009.

A graduate from St. John’s University, McCallum spent the summer working as a Promotional Coordinator Intern for the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers in 2009. His experience as an intern led him to joining the Stingers co-owners Marc Jerzak and Ryan Voz as they pursued an expansion franchise in Willmar.

McCallum began as the team’s Assistant General Manager in (2010 to 2012) and shortly after became the team’s General Manager following the 2012 season. Since he stepped foot in Willmar, McCallum has been a part of the community and an integral piece of the organization’s fabric.

“Unfortunately, we knew there was going to be a day that Nick would move on from the organization,”
Co-owner Ryan Voz said. “His loyalty to the team has been tremendous and wish him the best and he’ll always be a part of the team’s history.”

McCallum notes that the decision to leave the Stingers was a difficult one. He has made many lasting connections with other front office members throughout the Northwoods League over the years and will miss those greatly. His desire to be closer to family was a leading factor in his decision as he has immediate family who still reside from in his hometown of Hastings and the Twin Cities area.

“The Stingers were something brand new 12 years ago and nobody knew what to expect, but the community had immediate buy-in to the team,” McCallum said. “The fans, host families and sponsors here in Willmar are unlike any other I’ve seen across the Northwoods League.”

The Stingers will be working to find a replacement for McCallum in the coming weeks as the off-season gets into full preparation for the 13th season.

“I will forever be grateful to Ryan and Marc for giving me my first opportunity in sports and being a part of something really special with the Stingers in Willmar,” McCallum said.
