Willmar, MN- The Willmar Stingers welcome native Minnesotans Sam Malec and Brett Bateman. 

Malec, a native of Woodbury, MN is entering his 2nd season with the Stingers and is currently a freshman at the University of Minnesota. With the Stingers in 2021, Malec pitched 32.0 innings and striking out 37 batters in those innings pitched. Malec entered his freshman season with the Gophers ranked #9th overall in the state and #4th overall as a pitcher.

Bateman is a sophomore at the University of Minnesota and is returning for his second season with the Stingers. The Arden Hills native hit .353 in 17 at-bats last year for the Stingers. His best game came on June 5th when he went 3-5 with an RBI in a 9-0 win. With the Gophers in 2022, Bateman is currently hitting .318 in 44 at-bats.
