WILLMAR, MN – The Willmar Stingers swept the Mankato MoonDogs tonight, 5-2.

The Stingers continue to stay hot as their winning streak increases to four straight amidst back-t0-back series sweeps.

The Stingers took the lead in the bottom of the second when they scored four runs. The first run scored when Zac Corbin advanced home after an errant throw sailed over first base. Nick Terrell got the second run across home plate on a sac fly. Then, Joey Walls sent two home on an RBI single to make the score 4-0.

The MoonDog’s only runs would come in the fourth and fifth innings where they were able to get runners home on a sac fly and a ground out.

Willmar’s final run would come in the bottom of the fifth when Will Busch hit a ground ball to shortstop that was able to advance Zac Corbin from third. No more runs would come home in the final four innings with the game concluding 5-2 in favor of the Stingers.

The win would go to Willmar’s Logan Samuels. Samuels, who has spent the majority of the season in a relief role, starred in his first start. He threw six innings, striking out four while only giving up two runs. 2022 Northwoods League All-Star selection John Klein closed the game out in the ninth for the save.
