WILLMAR, MN – The Willmar Stingers defeated the Waterloo Bucks tonight, 20-2.

This is the second time this season the Stingers found a way to score 20 runs against the Bucks this week. On July 8th, the Stingers won 20-1 over at Riverfront Stadium in Waterloo, IA.

The Stingers got to work right away scoring five runs in the bottom of the first. The highlights of the inning included a lead-off triple from Jakob Christian and a two-run RBI single.

The Bucks would respond scoring two runs in the top of the second. The Stingers seemed to take those runs personally, as they decided to score ten runs in the bottom of the third.

Zac Corbin and JT Navyac were both able to hit separate bases-clearing doubles for three RBIs. 2022 All-Star Joey Walls also decided to join in on the fun with a two-run moonshot to the deepest part of center field.

Willmar wasn’t finished. The Stingers were able to add on five more runs in the seventh and eighth innings combined. Scott Anderson closed out the game with back-to-back RBI singles and Navyac sent his sixth runner home.

Navyac was named the MinnWest Technology Campus Player of the Game. He finished the game going 4-5 with two doubles and six RBIs. The infielder from Hawaii came into the game with six RBIs and was able to match his season total in one game.

The win would go to the 2022 Northwoods League All-Star Selection Sam Malec. He pitched five innings, striking out three without giving up any earned runs. The loss would be given to Buck’s starter Campbell Holt whose win-loss record goes to 0-4 on the year.

The Willmar Stingers have now won six straight games which is now the longest winning streak in the Great Plains Divison after the St. Cloud Rox lost their first game of the second half.

The Stingers take on the Mudpuppies tomorrow night as they are now on the search for win number seven to keep the streak alive. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
