WILLMAR, MN – The Willmar Stingers defeated the Minnesota Mud Puppies, 2-1.

The win came off the arm of Jack Habeck as he continued to set the league ablaze. The MinnWest Technology Player of the Game pitched 8.1 innings while striking out three and only giving up one run.

He went into the outing with a Northwoods League-leading six wins and came out of the game with seven. Willmar’s winning streak was extended to seven games which is the longest current streak in the league.

With St. Cloud’s lost to Eau Claire, the Stingers and Rox are now tied at the top of the Great Plains West for the second half.

Once again, the Stingers jumped out to an early scoring once in the first. Scott Anderson was able to send Zac Corbin on an RBI single. The second run would come home after Aidan Byrne was able to score Anderson in the third inning.

The one Mud Puppy run would come in the bottom of the ninth.  Seth Miller was called upon to get the final two outs and earned his first save on the year.

The Willmar Stingers will play tomorrow against the Minnesota Mud Puppies looking for their fourth-straight series sweep. The first pitch is scheduled for tomorrow at 7:05 p.m.
